How To Turn Colored Clothes Whitening : Try tying up clothing for a tie-dye bleach dip, or placing objects like leaves or stencils on the fabric for a bleach-resisting effect. Try creating a design on your clothes by using a bleach pen. Make sure to place a piece of cardboard in between clothing layers, and rinse the excess bleach off quickly and completely.. Soak the garment in lemon juice. Fill a large stockpot with water and add the slices of one or two lemons. Bring the contents to a boil over high heat. Turn off the heat, then add your whites, and allow them to soak for an hour in the lemon water. Make sure that the lemons are cut into slices rather than halves.. Bleaching Colored Items. You could also try working with a stronger bleach solution to speed things up—I wouldn’t go any stronger than 1 part bleach to 12 parts water (1 cup bleach added to 3 quarts water). Just don’t lengthen the soak time—prolonged exposure to bleach and water solutions can cause irreversible yellowing.. Remove the stained garment from the washing machine if you've just washed it. Do not put it in the dryer before treating, because heat can set the stain. Lay the garment flat on a towel. Apply heavy-duty liquid detergent directly to the stained parts of the garment. Let it soak for 20 minutes, then rinse with cool water.. When handling bleach make sure that you wear protective gloves and follow all guidelines listed on the product. Run a full cycle with as much agitation as possible. You can also use one cup of white distilled vinegar instead of the bleach. If the colour-bleed remains, repeat Step 2. If the stain is still there, soak the stained garments for eight hours in a solution of oxygen-based bleach and cool water. If the stain persists, repeat Step 3 and launder again in a washing machine.. Bleach will not turn all fabric white. Depending on the fabric and dye, the bleach might destroy the fibers before removing most of the dye. Bleach won't turn all fabrics completely white. Fill a large bucket with water and bleach, with one part bleach to five parts warm water.. Keep doing this until you are happy with the color for up to one hour. Once you are happy with the color, remove the t-shirt from the solution and rinse it with cool water in the adjoining sink basin. Once your shirt is thoroughly rinsed, check it for evenness. If you aren’t happy with color, repeat the bleaching process. Neutralize the Bleach. Chlorine bleach is a powerful whitener, but it should only be used on white clothes. Start your washer with the regular detergent, add 3/4 cup of chlorine bleach to the water, then add the laundry. Check the clothing care tag to verify that you can use chlorine bleach on the garment beforehand, even if the clothing is white.. Whites are the hardest color to keep looking bright and new after just a few months' time. Your sweat and oils quickly become stains, and colors from other clothes will eventually bleed into the fabric, discoloring your bright whites into something merely whitish. But before you reach for the bleach, the ultimate chemical cleaner, try some a few of these safer, less-toxic DIY solutions out . Even white fabrics made from natural fibers like cotton and linen can turn yellow if they are exposed to too much chlorine bleach. Overuse of chlorine bleach can also cause white clothes to yellow when hung in the sun to dry because the sun adds another layer of bleaching due to ultra-violet rays. And, .
